About Us

PhotovoiceKit is a complete web-based toolkit for carrying out a photovoice project that combines photography, dialogue, photo exhibits, and social action to address the
community issues you care about. Its development is made possible by a collaboration of Prevention Strategies, LLC and researchers at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

PhotovoiceKit (PVKit) is a project headed by Drs. Bob Strack and Muhsin Orsini and supported by the National Institutes of Health. Recognizing that the power of photovoice could be enhanced through the use of the internet, PVKit is designed to offer an innovative way to disseminate and spread the photovoice methodology through e-learning platforms, social media, and other emerging technologies.

Customization of PVKit for various groups, topics, and social issues is keeping the PVKit team busy and we are continually seeking partners to expand its reach and utility. Topics currently being targeted include reducing underage drinking and addressing community alcohol policies, as well as improving the health of adolescents by influencing built environments, opportunities for physical activity, and enhanced nutrition options.

The PVKit team continues to seek out new technologies and partners that can enhance our ability to integrate innovative technologies and strengthen health promotion efforts. Our growing list of community and technology partners includes: LeanForward, Go Fish Digital, Tuitive LLC, Free Range Studio, and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).

Prevention Strategies LLC is a team of researchers devoted to program development and evaluation that improves the health and wellness of young people. We are educated in the fields of exercise and sport science, psychology, research methodology, public health, and prevention science.  However, our greatest strength is the synergy that exists when we work together and with others to develop innovative strategies and programs that effectively prevent substance use and other behavioral health outcomes.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is a challenging, supportive, and engaged learning community.  Founded in 1891, UNCG is the largest and most diverse university in the Triad, serving over 20,000 students. Standing apart from other universities, the UNCG community is joined together by a shared value: We define excellence not only by the people we attract, but by the meaningful contributions made.
